Frank D. Petruzzi, 89
Youngstown: Frank Dominic “Putt-Putt” Petruzzi, age 89, passed away on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 after a long battle with kidney and heart disease.
Frank was born in Youngstown on February 14, 1921 to parents Elizabeth and Frank Petruzzi (both deceased). He had one brother, Anthony (also deceased).
A man is the accumulation of every experience, every accomplishment, and every good friend he has made in his lifetime. Frank can base the success of a lifetime on the many friends he made along the way.
He graduated from East High School in 1939 and joined the Army in 1942. He was stationed in France during World War II. Once he returned to Youngstown in 1945, he met, courted and married Rose Marie Panno in 1950. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in late July of this year.
Frank is survived by his wife, Rose; two children, Frank Petruzzi (Natasa) and Lisa Marie Contreras (Anthony); two beautiful grandchildren – Isabella (age 9) and Mia (age 6); 5 nephews and a niece.
Frank worked for 30 years as a supervisor in the Youngstown Water Department. Following his retirement from the city in the late 70s, he worked part-time in both the Federal Bankruptcy Courts and the State Treasurer’s Department just to keep busy and active. He loved golf, cooking, raising tomatoes, canning peppers and was often the first to volunteer to plan and help orchestrate any social gathering. Those who know him well would not be surprised to hear that he asked to be buried with his spaghetti spoon and a fork.
Frank made the Cursillo in 1968. He was also a founding member of the Mahoning County Alcohol & Drug Addiction Services Board and served as a Board Member from 1990-1996.
A celebration of life viewing will be held Thursday from 5-8pm, at Wasko Funeral Home. Services will be held Friday 9:30am at Wasko Funeral Home and 10am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish.
