Margaret Smrek, 85
Campbell: A memorial service will be held 2pm on Sunday at the Wasko Funeral Home with Pastor William Rotar officiating for Margaret Smrek, 85 who passed away Monday morning in her home.
Margaret was born May 19, 1925 in Campbell the daughter of Michael and Helen Macala Homulos and was a life long area resident of Campbell.
She was a 1943 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School.
Baba, as she was affectionately called by her great-grandchildren, was proud to be a Mom, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. She was an excellent homemaker and an avid bingo player.
Her husband, Robert C. Smrek, whom she married on Aug. 6, 1949 in Holy Trinity Church in Struthers, passed away on Sept. 4, 1977.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Loretta Smrek of Campbell, Michele (Stan) Nicholas of Youngstown, with whom she made her home and Robert M. Smrek of Campbell; grandchildren, Dawn Nicholas-Essad, Jennifer Nicholas-Miller, Kayla Smrek and Melinda (Rice) Johnson; 5 great-grandchildren and a sister Helen Homulos-Korechko of Campbell.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert, her two sisters, Irene Homulos and Mary Zackasee and one brother Michael “Bobo” Homulos.
The Smrek family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home and will receive friends Sunday from 1-2pm.
