Campbell… Dr. Anthony Pacella, known to family and friends as "Tony," passed away on Friday, July 28, 2017, at the age of 78 years.  Tony was born in Youngstown on July 28, 1939, son of Dominic and Cornelia (Honda) Pacella.

A native of Campbell, Tony attended The Ohio State University, graduated with a B.S. in Education (1961), Westminster College earning a M.S. in Education (1964), as well as completing his doctoral studies at the Louisiana State University earning a Doctorate in Education (1970).

Dr. Pacella taught from 1961 to 1964 at West Branch High School, then transitioned to his Alma Mater Campbell Memorial High School (Class of 1957),  to teach Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Physical Science from 1964 to 1986.  Tony was the guidance counselor at the high school from 1986 to 1992.

Tony spent 24 years of his 28 years at Memorial High School in the role as Varsity golf coach and in 2004 was inducted into the Campbell Athletics Hall of Fame for his accomplishments.  Highlights from his coaching tenure include:  winning the first ever Steel Valley Conference Golf Championship, his 1979 team placing fourth in the Sectional Tournament to qualify for play in the District Tournament, and in 1977 he was the first-ever girls’ golf team coach. 

His passion for the sport led Tony to organize the Youngstown District Golf Association and to instruct in the junior golf program at Countryside Golf Course from 1977 to 1980.  Tony was a sponsor for Campbell City School’s Tee Time for Kids, as well as the secretary of Countryside Men’s Golf League, a committee member of the Campbell Invitational Golf Tournament, past president and past treasurer of the Campbell Golf League, and he was an outstanding golfer.

Tony will be deeply missed and is survived by his sister, Patricia (Pacella) Mikolay of Campbell, his brother, Patrick (Diane) Pacella of Toledo; his nieces, Kimberly Pacella of Toledo, Theresa Pacella of Florida, and Heidi (Andrew) Temming of Loveland, OH; his great nephew and niece, Charles and Elizabeth Temming; and his extended family, Mary, Drew, Aislinn, and Derek Janek of Campbell.

Friends, family, former students and colleagues can call on Tony’s family at a celebration of life on Saturday, August 5, at St. Lucy’s Catholic Church, 394 Tenney Ave., Campbell, Ohio, 44405 from 9:30-11:00 a.m.  A mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Shawn Conoboy officiating.

A special thank you is extended to the physicians and staff at both Vibra Hospital of Mahoning Valley and St. Elizabeth’s (Main) P.I.C. Unit for their compassionate care of Tony.
