Anita Walko, 88
Campbell...Funeral services will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. at the Wasko Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Christ the Good Shepherd Parish at St. Lucy Catholic Church for our dear Mom, Grandma, and Great Grandma, Anita Nightingale Walko, 88, who joined her 1st husband (our dad) Carl, and her brothers, sisters and mother and father in heaven on Sunday, Aug. 19th, 2018.
Anita was born on Nov. 23, 1929 in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of George and Lucille Girard Nightingale. She moved to the Campbell area after her marriage to Carl in 1949. They lived most of their lives together at 16 Homestead Place in Campbell. There they raised five children, (Carl, Catherine, Steven, Tom and Matthew) and one more to precede them in heaven (David).
They were parishioners of St. Elizabeth Catholic church for more than 50+ years, and is now a member of St. Lucy Catholic Church.
Once her children were raised, Anita attended Youngstown State University from 1966 – 1973 and became an elementary school teacher. She taught in the city of Campbell for some 25 years; including 1st grade at Penhale and 4th grade at St. John the Baptist parochial school. She retired in 1994.
In retirement she greatly enjoyed her daily golf game at Bedford Trails in Coitsville. She also enjoyed word games, puzzles and crocheting. She also found companionship in marriage to her beloved 2nd husband, John Walko.
Anita will be missed and remembered fondly by her husband John; her children Carl (Skip) Walko of Hudson, Cathy Skripac of Stow, Steve Walko of Hubbard, Tom Walko of Boardman, and Matt Walko of Strongsville, as well as her grandchildren, Terry, Lynn, Jenny, Christopher, Valerie, Miranda, Stacy, Melissa, Sarah, Kevin and Kristin; and her great grandchildren, Jacob, Calior, Jameson, Gwen, Gavin, Paige, Ben, Maya, Levi, and Emma.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her 1st husband Carl, who passed away in 1991; her son David; three brothers; and three sisters.
The Walko family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home and will receive family and friends on Thursday evening from 4-7:00 p.m.
