BOARDMAN – A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2018, at St. Matthias Church, celebrated by Fr. John Jerek, for Cecilia Schlosser.
Cecilia was born on Sept. 4, 1933, in Whitney, Pa. She was the daughter of John and Elizabeth Franko Schlosser.
When she was three months old, at the end of the Depression, the family moved to Youngstown, where jobs were available in the steel mills. She remained a lifelong resident of the Youngstown area.
She was a member of St. Matthias Church-Our Lady of Sorrows Parish. She attended St. Matthias Grade School and Woodrow Wilson High School. She continued her education at Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Canton where she received her Nursing Certificate. She continued her education at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and to Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, where she received a Master’s degree as a Psychiatric Nurse Clinician.
Cecilia worked at Woodside Receiving Hospital where she was Assistant Director of Nursing. She went on to teach at Case Western Reserve University and was an Assistant Professor in Psychiatric Nursing. She also worked the Department of Defense Dependents Schools in England, Germany, and Japan. Upon retirement she volunteered at various places. She made rosaries at St. Mary’s Church and pirohy at St. Paul’s Church. Her favorite volunteer experiences were in prison ministry and at the Dorothy Day House.
Cecilia died on Aug. 5, 2018, at Hospice House.
There will be an hour of calling at St. Matthias one hour prior to the service.
Cecilia requests that any donations be given to St. Matthias Church or the Dorothy Day House.
Cecilia was preceded in death by a brother Martin, and sisters Margaret Mady, Mary Richnafsky, and Elizabeth Zajac.
She leaves her sister and brother-in-law, Anne (John) Tokarsky; her brother and sister-in-law, John (Barb) Schlosser; and many nieces and nephews.
She is very thankful for the loving family and friends she had to enrich her life. She would like to thank her caregivers at Hospice of the Valley as well as Dr. Hayah Kassis-George and the Mercy Hospital doctors and staff for their care throughout the last several months.
The Schlosser family has entrusted the Kubina-Yuhasz-Wasko Funeral Home with Cecilia’s arrangements.
