YOUNGSTOWN – A funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM on Thursday, January 24 2019 at the Kubina Yuhasz Wasko Funeral Home, with his brother-in-law, Robert Hanna celebrating for David C. “Dave” Texter, 86, who passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 19, 2019, surrounded by his loving family.
Dave was born March 26, 1932 in Campbell, a son of the late Gazy “James” and Christina (Lisko) Texter. He proudly served in the United States Navy, where he was an Airman during the Korean War. He received his electronics certificate from ATES, and then freelanced installing TV antennas and repairing radios and televisions. He also worked as a craneman and as a motor inspector for 33 years at Campbell Works Sheet and Tube (LTV Steel) until his retirement in 1983. Following his retirement, he worked in maintenance for the Maronite Center and then at the Canfield United Methodist Church for another 20 years until his permanent retirement.
Dave loved being outdoors, where he liked fishing, hunting, and after his retirement, enjoying a good cigar. He was extremely handy and enjoyed working on everything from cars to things around the house. But most of all, he was a selfless man who made sure everyone in his life was taken care of well. He will be sorely missed by all who were lucky enough to know him.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife, the former Dolores Hanna, whom he married April 30, 1960, his children, David (Christina) Texter of Salem, Kathy (Ron) Buser of Struthers, Lisa Garvin of Cortland, and Sharon Texter of Boardman, his grandchildren, Steven (Brittany) Doyle, Matthew, Hannah, Brian, and Jared Texter, Rachel and Michelle Buser, Sarah, Anna, and Laura Garvin, and Joey and Jamie Callard, his great grandchildren, Cieria and Aiden, and his siblings, Louis Texter of Campbell and Martha (Chuck) Polish of Austintown.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Christopher Garvin, and his granddaughter, Stephanie Buser.
The family has entrusted Dave’s care to the Kubina-Yuhasz-Wasko Funeral Home. The family will receive friends starting at 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Military honors will be rendered in honor of Dave’s service to our country.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that material contributions be made to mvi Hospice Care, 4891 Belmont Avenue, Youngstown, Ohio 44505 in Dave’s memory.
