Dorothy A. Korchnak, 87
Campbell…Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the Wasko Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church, with Rev. Kevin Marks officiating, for Dorothy A. Korchnak, 87, who passed away Friday evening.
Dorothy was born February 6, 1931, in Youngstown, the daughter of Andy and Sofia Orikiewicz Fabis. She grew up on a farm in Struthers and was a lifelong area resident.
She was a 1949 graduate of Struthers High School and served as the class Vice-President.
Dorothy worked as a payroll clerk for Hydril and had also worked as a Riveter, manufacturing aircrafts in the early 1950’s.
She married the love of her life, Peter Korchnak on November 1, 1952 at St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Church where she was a parishioner, and also an active member of the Infant Jesus Ladies Guild and the church choir.
Dorothy enjoyed polka dancing, having won many dance contests, golfing, and traveling to visit her grandchildren.
She leaves to cherish her memory her two daughters, Mary Beth (Wallace) Bleyl of Easton, Pa. and Jo Ann (Nicholas) Haralambis of Chapin, SC; and six grandchildren, Shawna, Erin, Daniel, Calli, Zachary and Stephen.
She was preceded in death by her parents Andy and Sofia; her husband, Peter; a son David; a sister, Fran; and brothers, George and Andy.
The Korchnak family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home and will receive family and friends on Friday from 5-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home; a Parastas service will be held at 4:30 p.m.
