John Volchko Obituary

Boardman…Funeral services will be held Tuesday August 28, 2018 at 9:15 a.m. at the Wasko Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, with Rev. Michael Farynets officiating, for John P. Volchko, Sr., 94, who passed away Thursday morning, Aug. 23, 2018.

 John was born July 9, 1924, in Youngstown, the son of Michael and Anna Volchko.  He was a 1942 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School and a lifelong area resident.

 John was a proud veteran of the US Army, where he served as a member of the 12th Armored Tank Division during WWII.

 He worked in the No. 1 Machine Shop as a machinist for Youngstown Sheet and Tube, retiring in 1977 after 41 years of service.

 John was a parishioner of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church and was a volunteer for the weekly church fish dinners.

 He was a member of VFW Post 3538 in Struthers and was a Chaplain for the group.

 John enjoyed working crossword puzzles in the Vindicator and the Cleveland Plain Dealer.  He also loved watching old western television shows and movies during the early morning hours, with his daughter-in-law.

 John’s wife, the former Carolyn A. Oswald, whom he married May 9, 1959; passed away July 21, 2017.

 John will be deeply missed and always remembered by his son, John Volchko Jr. and his wife Donna.

 Besides his parents; he was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn.

 The Volchko family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home and will receive family and friends Monday evening from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. The Panachida prayer service will be held at 5 pm.
