Peter J. Vukovich, 88
Edinburg, Pa………..Funeral services will be held at 11am Monday morning at Holy Apostle Parish at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Youngstown for Peter J. Vukovich, 88 formerly of Youngstown who passed away Thursday evening.
Peter was born June 14, 1930 in Youngstown, the son of John and Mary Vukovich.
He was a January 1949 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, graduating in the last January commencement Wilson High School had.
He served his county as a Corporal in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953 as Head Chef during the Korean War.
Peter was the Building Commissioner for the city of Youngstown until his retirement in the 1990’s, and in the evenings he worked as an Umpire for the Youngstown Baseball Association, retiring from baseball after 45years.
He was a member of the church; and the CFU.
Peter truly loved his family and enjoyed carrying on the family tradition of cooking, especially lamb, having cooked for many functions and people throughout the years with his brother Henry. He also enjoyed traveling to listen to the Tamburitzans and was very proud of his Croation heritage.
His wife, the former Anna H. McKlusky, whom he married on April 24, 1957, passed away on Feb. 8, 1997.
He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Maryann Carna of Edinburg, Pa.; granddaughters, Tabitha (Adam) Marino and Dr. Jaime (Garret) Davis, both of New Castle; great-grandchildren, Parker, Preston and Pryce; and his brother, Henry “Hank” (Wilma) Vukovich of Canfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers and sisters, Jackie, Thomas, John, Helen, Ann and George.
The Vukovich family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home in Campbell and will receive family and friends on Monday morning from 10 to 11am at Holy Apostle Parish at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
