YOUNGSTOWN – Funeral services will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at the Wasko Funeral Home in Campbell, for Thomas Lee Weems, 75, who passed away Saturday morning, Oct. 20, 2018.
Tom was born Aug. 10, 1943, in Youngstown, the son of Ernest and Gladys Harrington Weems.
He was a 1961 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School.  
He worked at the Paramount Theater from 1960 to 1962 as an usher and camera operator. It was there that he met Janice Fitch in 1961, while she worked at the ticket booth and candy counter. They married in August of 1963.
Tom proudly served his country by joining the U.S. Navy in August of 1962. He was assigned to the USS Forrestal Aircraft carrier (CVA-59) and supported Naval operations in the Mediterranean, as well as the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962.
After separating from the Navy, Tom returned to the Youngstown area and was employed at the Youngstown Sheet and Tube Company and LTV Steel, until his retirement in 1986.
He was an active member of the Masonary since 1974. He devoted his life to Masonic service and rose to the top as a highly respected brother. In 2001, Tom was awarded the Sovereign Grand Inspector General, 33rd degree.  
Tom was Past Master of Wick Lodge 481 and a member of the Youngstown York Rite and Hillman Bodies.  
He was inducted into Ohio Priory 18, Knights of the York Cross of Honour, and was a member of Al Koran Shrine in Cleveland, Clarence E. O’Neil Council 53, Allied Masonic Degrees and the Saxon Club.
In the Scottish Rite, he was past Most Wise Master of Youngstown Chapter of Rose Croix and served as First Lieutenant Commander of Mahoning Consistory. Tom received the Meritorious Service Award, Grand Commandery, State of Ohio and was the Chief Executive Officer of the Youngstown Masonic Temple on Wick Avenue.
Tom’s wife, the former Janice Dianne Fitch, whom he married Aug. 22, 1963, passed away July 14, 2016.
Tom will be deeply missed by his three children, Steven (Bobbie) Weems of Sahuarita, Ariz., Diane (Marty) Mistovich of Campbell, and Dennis (Shelly) Weems of Canfield; grandchildren Anika (Darius) Payton-Rodriguez of Tucson, Ariz., Jenna Weems, Kaylee Weems, and Andrew Weems, all of Canfield; and his brothers, Stan Weems of Arizona, William (Karen) Weems of Youngstown and Robert (Martha) Weems of Austintown.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his granddaughter, Loren Mistovich; grandson Westley Mistovich; and his sister, Jeanette Adams.
The Weems family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home and will receive family and friends Thursday, Oct. 25, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home, prior to the 3 p.m. funeral service and Masonic ceremony.
