Dorothy Frances (Yatsco) Makosky, 91
CLEVELAND…Dorothy Frances (Yatsco) Makosky, 91, a lifelong resident of the Youngstown area, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2026 at the Slovene Home for the Aged in Cleveland, Ohio. Dorothy will be deeply missed and always remembered by her two daughters Donna Jean and Sharon Marie.
Dorothy was born September 17, 1934 in Campbell, Ohio, a daughter of Michael and Alice (Hamrock) Yatsco.
She was a 1952 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School.
On November 27, 1952, Dorothy married the love of her life, George M. Makosky, with whom she shared 28 years of marriage until his passing on April 30, 1980.
Dorothy spent 40 years working hard and making friends with customers as a waitress at The Brown Derby Restaurant on South Avenue in Youngstown, and worked well into her 80s at Plaza Donuts Boardman.
Dorothy loved going to casinos, especially for the slot machines, and couldn’t resist a bingo night or a scratch-off lottery ticket! Spending time with her family was one of her favorite things, and she thoroughly enjoyed beating them at cards. In her earlier years, she enjoyed bowling leagues and recently she loved word search puzzles, watching television and game shows.
Dorothy was a parishioner of St. Dominic’s Church in Youngstown.
Dorothy is survived by daughter Donna Makosky-Woods (Howard Woods) of Cleveland; grandsons, Christoper and Zachary Woods; and great-granddaughter, Aine Mullen-Woods. She is also survived by daughter Sharon Romina, of Twinsburg; granddaughters Ashley Romina (Douglas Bittner) and Angel Romina. Her family also includes brother-in-law, Andy (Angela) Makosky, as well as many dear nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Alice, husband George, brother Fred (Ginny) Yatsco, and sisters, Helen (John) Walihnac and Cynthia Makosky, along with Makosky in-laws, Helenka, Bill & Mary, Terry & Roland Miller, Joe & Terry, Eddie & Dolly, Ann & Andy Hvisdak, and John & Rose.
