Edward was born July 20, 1925, in Youngstown, the son of Paula and Lyla Nelson Ocarz.

He was a 1944 graduate of South High School and went on to serve in the U.S. Navy as a Seaman First Class on the USS Washington BB56, during World War II.  He severed in the Asiatic Pacific with 6 combat stars and the Philippine Liberation with 2 combat stars.  He also served in the IWO, JIMA, and Okinawa areas. Edward will be fondly remembered as a big jokester, always making everyone laugh.  He loved to tease and agitate everyone, but above all, he was a very giving person and always offered a helping hand to anyone that would ask.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking and bowling.  Edward loved golf and was an active member of the Youngstown Golf League and in his younger years, he would often serve as a caddie at Mill Creek Golf Course and Stambaugh Golf Course in Youngstown.

Ed will be deeply missed by his wife, the former Helen Meleg; whom he married May 7, 1949; his daughters, Nancy and Daniel Sabella of Austintown; and Maryellen and Fred Ramos of Campbell; his son-in-law, Steve Thompson of Boardman; his five grandchildren, Joseph (Diane Mellot) Caruso, Tara (Michael) Rauscher, Danielle (Aaron) Dobich, Freddie (Michelle) Ramos, and Melissa (Seth) Kensinger; and seven great-grandchildren, Julianna and Freddie Ramos, Skyeler Caruso, Dominic Dobich, and Natalie, David, and James Rauscher; and many nieces and nephews.
