Irene Tkach Mattie, 96

PULASKI, PA…Irene Tkach Mattie, 96 passed away peacefully on Saturday August 1, 2026 at her home following a long illness.

Irene was born July 31, 1930 in Mahoning Township in Pennsylvania, a daughter of Frank and Sophie (Sivak) Tkach.

She attended Villa Maria School and Tent Hall. Irene married the love of her life, John G Mattie on October 1, 1949 and they shared 51 years of marriage until his passing on May 5, 2000.

Irene was a parishioner of Holy Spirit Parish at St. James the Apostle in Pulaski, PA. She was a member of KSKJ Jednota, St. James Christian Woman’s Organization and Blue Mountain Lodge.

Irene worked for Aluminum Color Industries in Lowellville for 17 years.

Even though Irene lived through the Great Depression, the bounty of her family’s farm allowed her to not even know about it.

Irene will be deeply missed and always remembered by her children, Carol Beatrice (Joseph) of Charlottesville,VA and John G. Mattie Jr. of Pulaski, PA; grandchildren, John (Lacey Hammond) Mattie III, Mark R. Mattie, Christina Delaney (Ian) and Amber Morris; great-grandchildren, Madison Morris, Caden Delany, Paige Delany along with several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband John; daughter, Barbara Pagan; son, Christopher Mattie; brothers, Frank, Joseph, John, Mike, Albert and infant brother John; sisters, Ann Marion, Frances Torok and Sophie Saldo.

The Mattie family has entrusted Irene’s care to the Wasko Funeral Home in Campbell, Ohio. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 7, 2026 at 10:30 am at Holy Spirit Parish at St. Mary’s Church in New Castle, PA officiated by Father John Ferguson.

Irene will be laid to rest at St. James Cemetery at Villa Maria, PA at a later date.

In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to Sisters of the Humility of Mary, P.O. Box 402, Villa Maria, PA 16155.
