John C. Orlo

Campbell…John was called to his Heavenly home in the loving arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday, April 1, 2018 with his loving family and his Hospice family by his side.  He died in his sleep from congestive heart failure at 85.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the Wasko Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:30 p.m. at Christ the Good Shepard Parish at St. Joseph the Provider Church, with Rev. Michael Swierz officiating.

John was born July 18, 1932, in Youngstown the son of John & Anna (Spolska) Orlowski.

He was a 1950 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School and attended DeVry Technical Institute in Columbus.

John honorably and faithfully served his country in the US Army being drafted into the 7th Army in Mannheim Germany for two years from 1954-1956.

He married the love of his life the former Verna Jane Swartz on May 9, 1964. In this union of marriage they had one son Thomas J. Orlo.

John was employed by the former Youngstown Sheet & Tube Co. for 5 years at their Rod and Wire Plant in their maintenance Dept. as a Pipe fitter helper. He was then employed by Ohio Bell Telephone for 35 years as a central office technician, he retired in August 1991.

He was a parishioner of Christ the Good Shepard Parish at St. Joseph the Provider Church. He belonged to the church Infant Guild. He loved God and all of his creations and lived life to the fullest.

John was a member of the Communications Workers of America Local 4300, where he served on the retired members club. He also was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, the American Legion Post 560 of Campbell, the Mahoning Valley Olde Car Club, the Campbell Senior Citizens, the Coitsville Senior Citizens Club and the 1418 Seniors Club with John Texter.

John was a very intelligent man, speaking many languages and could fix anything broken. He was a true "Mr. Fix it". He loved doing yardwork and loved his dog Sparky.

John especially loved being with his family & friends and doing anything with his son Tommy. He loved all types of music playing snare drums in the Campbell Memorial High School Band; as well as playing his accordion for many occasions.

He is survived by his loving wife Verna Jane Orlo; his sister-in-law, Eileen Maluk, brother-in-law Eugene (Lori) Swartz, sister-in-law Corky Swartz, several nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews. He also leaves his cousins, Helen Baluck and Mike Mularchik; as well as two special friends Paul Wojtowicz and Frank Dubaj.

John was preceded in death by his loving son, Thomas J. Orlo who died on October 14, 2017; his parents, father & mother-in-law, Darrell E. & Veronica T. Swartz; brothers-in-law, Carl J. Swartz, and Michael Maluk; as well as grandparents; aunts; uncles; and cousins.

The Orlo family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home and will receive family and friends Thursday from 4-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home, where the church rosary society will hold a prayer service at 3:30 p.m.

"Death takes the body, God takes the soul.  Our mind holds the memories.  Our heart keeps the love.  Our faith reminds us that we will meet again."

Memorial contributions may be made to the family.  Donations will be divided between Hospice of the Valley and St. Joseph the Provider.

John will be laid to rest at St. John's Catholic Cemetery.
