Mary Jane "Janie" Gocala, 82
Campbell…Funeral services will be held Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at the Wasko Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Christ the Good Shepherd Parish at St. John Catholic Church, for Mary Jane "Janie" Gocala, 82, who passed away at home Saturday morning, with her children by her side.
Mary Jane was born June 16, 1935, in Campbell, the daughter of John and Mary Vataha Hurajt. She was a 1953 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School and was a lifelong area resident.
Besides being a homemaker, she worked for the A & P Tea Company and then worked for Hynes Industries as a secretary for 16 years. Mary Jane also worked as a caregiver for Home & Health when called upon.
Mary Jane was a parishioner and lifelong member of St. John Catholic Church. She was a very dedicated member of the church, and actively participated as a member of the Altar and Rosary and Society and served as the past Treasurer of the Infant Jesus of Prague Guild. Mary Jane volunteered for the St. Vincent DePaul Soup Kitchen and helped at the St. John Soup Kitchen in Campbell. She was a silent member of the Legion of Mary. While going to Florida during the winter months, Mary Jane attended St. Clement Church in Plant City and helped with stemming strawberries for their annual parish festival fundraiser.
She was a member of the Catholic Sokol, Wreath #131.
Her husband, Zoltan "Zoli" Gocala; whom she married May 8, 1954 and were the first couple married by Monsignor M. Tondra, in the new St. John Church, when it was first built. "Zoli" passed away August 31, 2006; after 52 years of marriage.
Mary Jane will be greatly missed by her children, James Gocala of Campbell; her daughter, Jean Gocala of Lakeland, Florida; her three granddaughters; eight great grandchildren; and her friend, Ernie.
Besides her parents; and her husband, "Zoli", she was preceded in death by her daughter, Beverly Butcher; her sister, Margaret; and her brother, Andrew.
The family would like to especially thank Hospice of the Valley for their love and support.
Mary Jane's family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home and will receive family and friends Wednesday from 5-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
