Richard R.
Tancabel
Jan 5, 1931 — May 5, 2017
Richard R. Tancabel, 86 YOUNGSTOWN – Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Angela Merici, formerly the Sacred Heart Church, with the Rev. Kevin Peters officiating, for Richard R. Tancabel, 86, who passed away Friday evening, with his family by his side. Richard was born Jan. 5, 1931, in Worthington, Pa., the son of Michael and Olga Vlah Tancabel. Richard worked as a laborer for Bessemer Cement Company in Bessemer, Pa., for over 52 years. He was a parishioner of St. Angela Merici Parish at Sacred Heart Church. Richard was a member of the Bessemer Croatian Club and active in the Cement Traders Union. He was a huge Yankees fan. He loved scratch off tickets, and playing the daily lottery. Richard was an avid bowler and was a member of various bowling leagues throughout the area. Richard will be fondly remembered as a very friendly man, who always had a smile on his face. He had a great sense of humor and always made people laugh. Above all, he enjoyed his family and he especially enjoyed attending his grandson's sporting events. Richard will be sadly missed by his wife, the former Helene R. Stellato, whom he married June 27, 1959; his sons, Jeffrey Tancabel of Youngstown and James (Kathy) Tancabel of Boardman; his grandsons, James Tancabel and Nicholas Tancabel; his brother, John Tancabel of Bessemer; his twin sisters, Mary Ann (Richard) Proctor of Bessemer and Patty Vallus of Youngstown; several nieces, nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Tancabel; his sister, Catherine Hosack; and his brother-in-law, Eddie Vallus. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Robert Spratt and staff, as well as the staff of the Omni Manor Health Care Center for the wonderful and compassionate care given to Richard. The Tancabel family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home in Campbell and will receive family and friends on Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church, prior to the 11 a.m. funeral Mass. In lieu of flowers, Richard's family requests that monetary contributions be made in his name to either Hospice of the Valley or St. Angela Merici Parish.
