Ron Kelly, 79
Campbell… Ron Kelly, 79, passed away Tuesday afternoon while at home.
Ron was born September 11, 1938, in Harwick, Pennsylvania, the son of William & Mary Elaine Carroll Kelly.
He was a 1956 graduate of Franklin High School, where he excelled in track and field, basketball and football. Ron attended Edinboro College and was a member of the football team and was on the track and field team.
He served his country in the United States Navy, as a LT JG Personnel Officer, serving in Alaska during the Vietnam War from 1960 to 1964.
Ron was a retired steelworker from Youngstown Sheet and Tube. Following his retirement, he worked as a part-time painter and full-time comedian.
Ron was a charter member of the Campbell Grid Iron, Little Red Devils and Campbell Little League. In 1975, Ron managed the Carrier Realty team to the first undefeated season in Campbell Little League History.
He was an avid golfer and won the Youngstown Open in 1967. Ron was a huge supporter of all Campbell Red Devil sports. He enjoyed spending time and entertaining his family, friends, neighbors and total strangers. Ron loved making people laugh and everyone around him has a funny and/or outrageous story to tell of him.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, the former Caliope Climes, whom he married on June 22, 1963; four children, Tony Kelly (Mary Janek) of Campbell, Paige Kelly of Florida, Lisa Yiannos (John Wachter) of New Jersey and Christopher (Kim) Kelly of Howland; grandchildren, AJ (Kim), Ryan, Cassie, Christo, Will, and Michael Kelly, and Caliope, Stellanie and Marina Yiannos; his sister, Sue (Pat) Fitzgerald; sister-in-law, Kaye Kelly; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Billy Kelly.
The Kelly family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home and will receive family and friends on Saturday from 11:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral Services will follow at 2 p.m.
