Sylvia M. Crespo, 90
AUSTINTOWN — Sylvia M. Crespo, 90, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, November 1, 2026.
Sylvia was born September 1, 1936, in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, a daughter of the late Demetrio and Margarita (Ramirez) Olivero.
On August 4, 1956, Sylvia married her childhood sweetheart, Antonio Crespo. Their love story began as third-grade classmates and blossomed into 70 wonderful years of marriage. That same year, Sylvia and Antonio moved from Puerto Rico to Youngstown, where they raised their family and built lasting roots in the community. She was of deep Catholic faith and a former parishioner of Sta. Rosa de Lima Church in Campbell.
Sylvia found great joy in gardening and cooking, and she was famous among family and friends for making the very best rice and beans. She also loved playing Brisca, a traditional Spanish card game in which she frequently got the best of her husband. Nothing, however, brought Sylvia greater happiness than simply being with her family—especially her precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by her beloved husband, Antonio; her children, Antonio (Maria) Crespo Jr. of Austintown, Nancy (Michael) Laboy of Campbell, Iris Crespo of Austintown, Sylvia M. (Berle) Vircks of Cortland, Myrna Crespo of Austintown, Lindy Rivera of Austintown, and Hector (Denise) Crespo of Chicago, Illinois; 10 grandchildren, Sarita (Ray) Varsel, Christina (Eric) Crespo-Leirer, Antonio Crespo, Nancy (Socrates) Gomez-Crespo, Jose Crespo, Jose (Ashley) Rivera, Daniel Rivera, Alena Crespo, EvaEnid Rivera, and Anthony Crespo; 16 great-grandchildren; her sister, Elba Olivero of Puerto Rico; her nephews, Joe Ruiz and Tony Ruiz of Puerto Rico, as well as the many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews from both her and Antonio’s sides of the family—all of whom she loved equally and deeply.
In addition to her parents, Sylvia was preceded in death by her two brothers, Edgar and Hector Olivero, and niece Enid Ruiz.
The Crespo family has entrusted Sylvia’s care to the Wasko Funeral Home in Campbell, Ohio. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, November 8, 2026, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., and again on Monday, November 9, 2026, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m., followed immediately by a funeral service at 1:00 p.m.
Sylvia will be laid to rest at Lake Park Cemetery in Youngstown, Ohio.
