Anthony (Tony) P. Matash III, 89
Campbell…Anthony (Tony) P Matash III was called home to his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 17, 2024. Tony was born April 6, 1935, the son of Anthony and Helen (Vecchione) Matash in Niles, Ohio. He worked for decades in the steel industry in a variety of leadership roles at the Youngstown Sheet and Tube, Great Northern Steel Company and United Steel Service. He also served his country with distinction, in the United States Army and Army Reserves. On June 27, 1959, Tony married the love of his life the former Louise Nobile, and made a home in Campbell, Ohio, where they raised their three children Teresa (Ted) Volsko, Mary (Doug) Rozum and Debbie (Art) Morris.
Tony’s love for his community could be seen through his countless hours of volunteerism. He will be forever remembered by his warm smile, gentle spirit, kind heart and willingness to always help when there was a need. He was often seen playing the trumpet and singing in the St. Lucy church choir, participating in memorial and veteran’s day ceremonies by playing taps, coaching girls’ softball, helping at festivals, church dinners and fundraisers.
Tony was an avid golfer and member of the Campbell golf league. He also enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing morra, traveling, winemaking and woodworking. His master craftmanship could be seen through his many creations in his home, and gifts he made for friends and family. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family, hosting wonderful events, sharing stories with his wife, children, grandchildren and playing with his great grandchildren. Tony loved and cherished his daughters and sons-in-law. His family and the love of God and his church meant the world to him.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents and mother and father-in-law Albert and Nicolina Nobile. He will be sadly missed by this wife and children, grandchildren Jacob (Haley) Volsko, Christina (Aaron) Robbins, Melanie (Mike) Musci, Anthony (Kelsey) Rozum, Arthur Morris and Jenny Morris, and his great-grandchildren Alexandra Jude, Robert Vincent, and Theodore Jacob Volsko. He also leaves behind to cherish his memory his sister Mary Ann (Steve) Boccieri, many nieces, nephews, a great niece and nephew and friends.
The Matash family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home and will receive family and friends Friday, July 19, 2024 from 5-7pm at the funeral home in Campbell. Services will begin on Saturday July 20th, 9:30 am at the funeral home followed by a mass of Christian burial at the Basilica of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Youngstown at 10 am officiated by Monsignor Michael J Cariglio, Jr.
Tony will be laid to rest at St. Johns Cemetery in Lowellville, Ohio.
