Barbara Jean (Katros) Kuras

BOARDMAN TOWNSHIP- There will be a Mass of Christian burial at 10:15 a.m. on Thursday, December 12th at St. Columba Cathedral in Youngstown for Barbara Jean Kuras, 89, who passed away Friday, December 6th surrounded by love.

Barb was born on March 6th, 1935, in Youngstown, Ohio, the daughter of Steve and Stella (Jacobs) Katros. Her and her late husband, John, were happily married for 70 years and raised their three sons at their homestead in Boardman.

She was an active member of St. Stanislaus Church in Youngstown where she made pierogis weekly and served the parish. She was the manager at the Garment Center for many years. Once retired, she found joy in volunteering at church, bus trips, playing bingo and above all else spending every chance she could with her grandchildren, who called her “Bubba”.

She was especially known as a caregiver and the glue to her family and friends. She enjoyed hosting every holiday, cooking, baking, and celebrating life to the fullest. She shared her love for their Polish heritage with her husband as active members at the Krakusy Polish American Society and the Polish National Alliance.

She is survived by her three sons: John (Marybeth) of Cranberry, Pennsylvania; Joseph (Joanie) of Boardman, Ohio; Jim (Annie) of Odenton, Maryland; her three grandchildren – Michael (Laura), Corie and Alison.

She is proceeded in death by her husband John, who passed away in December 2023, parents and siblings; MaryAnn Pizzuto and Steve Katros Jr.

The family would like to extend their thanks to all caregivers and staff at St. Mary’s Alzheimer’s facility, Sanctuary Hospice of Ohio and Dr. Joseph Zeno.

The Kuras family will receive friends on Thursday, December 12, 2024, from 9:00 – 10:00 am at St. Columba Cathedral, 159 W. Rayen Avenue, Youngstown, OH  44503. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow. 

Chapel services at Lake Park Cemetery will follow.
