Bertha “Betty” Simchick, 85
POLAND…With great sadness, we share that our mother, Bertha (Betty Stellmar) Simchick, of Poland, Ohio, passed away peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her children, Sunday, March, 2, 2025.
Betty was born March 5, 1939 in Campbell, the daughter of the late Alex and Stefania Stellmar.
She was a 1956 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School. She was a proud “Red Devil” and was instrumental in the planning of many reunions with lifelong school friends. Betty worked in several area doctor offices before accepting a position at St. Elizabeth Hospital as a transcriptionist in the Medical Records department. She also worked as a coder and eventually advanced her career to Medical Records Analyst. After retiring in 2001, she volunteered at the Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center with the St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital Auxiliary organization.
Betty married Rudy Simchick on October 27, 1984. They enjoyed life together and had many memorable vacations and good times at the hunting cabin in the mountains of Pennsylvania. Betty’s greatest joy came from spending time with her family. Countless meals were shared around the table. She welcomed everyone and if you left her house hungry, it was your own fault. She was a wonderful mother, eager to listen and offer advice. She proudly accepted the title of Grammy and her grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren adored her. She felt the greatest gift you could give to someone was your time.
She was proud of her Polish heritage and taught her family how to make the traditional foods.
She and her siblings took turns hosting Wiglia, the Christmas Eve vigil, birthdays were celebrated singing Sto Lat!, Easter memories include her beautifully decorated eggs, delicious paska and borscht.
Betty was a member of the Infant Jesus of Prague Guild, and choir at St. Joseph the Provider church until its closing. She then joined St. Patrick church in Hubbard, where she was a member of the Altar Rosary Society. She spent many Friday’s making pierogi and helped to prepare food for festivals at both churches. She enjoyed sharing rides to church with her Uber Lady girlfriends; JoAnn Swierz, Marie Harrison, Martha Salvator and Marge Wellendorf.
Betty is survived by her son Matthew Dimoff, whom she shared a home with. He always made sure her needs were taken care of in the best way possible. Additional children are Shirley (Dan) Grim of Greenville, Pa., Debbie Savage of Boardman, Audrey (Mike) Raggio of North Lima and son-in-law, Bill Savage of Boardman; her grandchildren, Christine Graves, Steven Graves Jr., Nick (Gianna) Savage, Joseph Sadosky, Amanda (Anthony) Kashiwsky, Sean (Olivia) Sadosky, Daniel Grim Jr., Ryan Savage; twenty great-grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Janosik of Campbell; brother-in-law, Hoppy Lavernuick and many nieces, nephews and friends, including Fr. Michael Swierz, who offered spiritual support and friendship.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alex and Stefania Stellmar; her husband, Rudy Simchick; two sons, Gregory Dimoff and David Dimoff; two brothers, Frank Stellmar and James Stellmar; one sister, Patricia Laveruick; two sisters-in law, Darlene Stellmar and Dorothy Stellmar; brother-in-law, Thomas Janosik.
The Simchick Family would like to thank the staff of Patriot Home Health/Hospice and Aventura at Assumption Village for the compassionate care they provided to our mother. We have entrusted Wasko Funeral Home to attend to her final arrangements.
Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.
Our mother lived a good life and was ready to be welcomed into the arms of Jesus.
