Betty Peyko, 98
Campbell...Betty passed away peacefully late Friday evening, April 5, 2024.
She was born September 28, 1925, in Youngstown, Ohio, a daughter of the late Joseph and Barbara (Wilczkiewicz) Ruz. Betty was a graduate of Wilson High School, and was a lifelong resident of Campbell, Ohio.
Betty leaves three children; Barbara Tuscano, Janet Grubb (Dale), and Vincent Peyko (Jocelyn) of Youngstown; seven grandchildren, Philip(Amanda) Tuscano, Maria Tuscano, Vincent (Vinnie) and Meagan Peyko, John(Ashley) Peyko, Gina (Keith) Vella, Ryan (Casandra Slaubaugh) Grubb, and Jennifer(Levi) Hinerman; seven great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Gene Peyko whom she married September 8, 1951 and passed away in December of 1994. Three brothers; Walter, Stanley, and Ted Ruz and sisters; Sister Dosithea Ruz of the Franciscan Sisters of Chicago, Mary Yarwick, Veronica Bush, and Louise Yarwick.
She was an active member of a weekly crocheting gathering at St. Elizabeth Church in Campbell, and played cards (500 bid) for over 40 years with a group of friends. She loved doing any crafts, and volunteered weekly at St. Joseph The Provider Church as a piroghi maker.
Betty cared deeply for her family and joining all the family gatherings. She will be remembered by her family as fun loving, and mostly for making her kolache for Christmas and Easter. Her family enjoyed the fruits of her labor each holiday.
Betty’s family would like to thank Mercy Health (6th floor nurses and doctors) and Hospice of the Valley for the kindness shown and care given to Betty and her family during her brief illness.
The Peyko Family has entrusted Betty’s care to the Wasko Funeral Home in Campbell. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday April 9, 2024 at 11a.m.at St. Jude Church in Columbiana with Fr. Chad Johnson officiating and with calling hours from 10-11 a.m. in the church.
Burial took place beside her husband at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown.
