Youngstown……Private family services were held Friday, February 9, 2018, at the Wasko Funeral Home in Campbell, with Fr. Michael Swierz officiating, for David J. “Mogie” Lesko, 69, who passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at St. Elizabeth Hospital.

David was born March 8, 1948 in Youngstown, a son of John F., who died in the Korean War, and Mary Vallintich Lesko.

He was a 1967 graduate of Chaney High School in Youngstown.

David was employed as a laborer in the shipping department of Aerolite Extrusion Co., retiring in March 2010, after more than 39 years of service.

He attended Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Youngstown.

An avid sports lover, David enjoyed all Ohio sports, including and most importantly, the Cleveland Browns, Cavs and Indians. He also enjoyed Ohio State sports and was a season ticket holder to Youngstown State University football games. In the early 1970’s, David helped coach Campbell Little League baseball.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 33 years, the former Linda Ann Yarnell, whom he married June 2, 1984 at the Chapel of the Friendly Bells in Youngstown; his daughter Shelia (Mike) Goskie of Lowellville; and his sons, Scott (Christina) Burkhart and Jeffrey (Kim) Burkhart all of Youngstown.  In addition to his children, David leaves his nine grandchildren Alexandra and Hunter Hornyak, Jenna Burkhart, Michael, Caitlin, James and Joseph Vaught, Brittany and Jessyka Burkhart; and a great-grandchild that is on the way.

He is also survived by his brothers, Thomas (Joyce) Lesko of Boardman, Charles (Monica) Merrill of Campbell, Barry (Gloria) Merrill of Canfield and Robert Merrill of Tennessee; a sister, Vicki Merrill of Austintown; his mother-in-law, Joan Yarnell; as well as many nieces and nephews; and his beloved cat “Lady”.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father Henry Merrill; his father-in-law, Robert Yarnell; his son-in-law Mark Hornyak; and brother-in-law Michael Yarnell.
