Dolores Marie Vrabel, 94

Canfield… Dolores Marie Vrabel passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 19th at home.

Dolores, also known as Dolly, was born in Campbell on April 29, 1930, to Joseph and Mary Brayer Hudran.

Upon graduating in 1948 from Campbell Memorial High School, Dolly worked briefly at Youngstown Sheet & Tube in the Stambaugh Building in downtown Youngstown. Later in life she worked part-time at theYWCA and then as an Office Clerk with Sohio/BP Oil, retiring in 1992 after 24 years of service.

On September 26, 1953, she married Edward (Red) Vrabel and celebrated 64 years together until his passing in 2017. After many years resisting the sport, Dolly developed an interest in golf and it became something they enjoyed together and then as a member of the Twilighters Golf League.

A talented baker and cook with endless attention to detail, her decorated cakes and pies were enjoyed by many. She was recognized in The Vindicator’s “Our Good Cook” series. She loved to honor traditions and ensure they continued to be passed on. Dolly’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life. She lived vicariously through their adventures and was a proud spectator of their activities including sporting events, music concerts and academic endeavors. She was everyone’s Cheerleader – celebrating accomplishments and providing words of encouragement – “You can do It!”

Dolly was a fan of all Cleveland sport teams and OSU! She had a penchant for information and reading was a passion – especially The Vindicator from back to front every day. She had a strong faith and supported St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church in many ways which included: initiated a Penny Collection for the New Carpet Campaign; served on the committees for the “Old & New – Tried & True”cookbook fundraiser and the 100th Year Church Anniversary.

Dolly is survived by children: Eric (Kelly) Vrabel of North Carolina; Lora (Dr. James) Graneto of

Boardman; Kevin (Karen) Vrabel of Canfield; grandchildren: John (Alexandra) Vrabel of North Carolina;Katherine Vrabel (fiancé, Michael Manis) of Florida, Cara Graneto of Maine; Aaron Graneto of Boardman; Justen Vrabel of Columbus; Atty. Sarah Vrabel of Indiana and Dr. Jarret Vrabel of Virginia;great-grandchildren: McKenly and Sophia Vrabel; Sisters: Sis Bogan of Struthers and Donna (Ray)Barnett of Westlake; and many nieces and nephews. Godmother (Kresna) to Russell Bogan and Linda Macala.

 In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law Donald (Dorothy) Hudran and brother-in-law Robert Bogan.

She also leaves life-long friends Donna Garchar and Mary (Fangi) Fredericks, along with Mary Lou Macala and Eleanor Kozusko who preceded her in death.

The family would like to thank the staff at Mercy Health Hospice by Compassus and special caregiver Brenda Leyden for their exceptional care of Dolly.

Calling hours will be from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. with a Parastas service at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 28th at the Wasko Funeral Home, Campbell, OH. Visitation will occur at Wasko’s on Saturday, March 29th from 9:00-9:30 am followed by the Funeral liturgy at St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church on Wilson Avenue, Youngstown at 10:00 a.m.
