Edmund was born March 8, 1920, in Youngstown, Ohio, a son of the late John and Caroline Sobarnia Rudnicki.
Mr. Rudnicki was a graduate of South High School in Youngstown and was a machinist and a fabricator at General Fireproofing, retiring after 40 years. He was a lifelong member of St. Stanislaus Church where he was an usher, a pierogi worker, a member of the St. Stanislaus CWV Post 1222, and a member of the St. Stanislaus Infant Jesus of Prague Guild.
He was an avid golfer. He golfed almost every day until the age of 90. His interest in golf started with his being one of the first caddies at Mill Creek Golf Course, along with his brother Tom. The highlight of his golfing career was when the PGA came to Tam-O-Shanter Golf Course where he scored a hole in one on the 18th hole and received a medal from the PGA.
Ed was a World War II veteran serving as a technical sergeant in the Army Air Corps. He flew several missions on a B-24 Bomber, was shot down over France, and was held by the Germans as a prisoner of war in Austria for 14 months. He received a Purple Heart, as well as an Air Medal of Honor, and a POW Medal.
He leaves to cherish his memory his nieces and nephews Tom (Susan) Rudnicki, Marsha (Michael) Schlais (with whom he made his home for the past two years), Richard (Allison) Rudnicki, Cynthia (Jack) Bermann, Sandra (James) Welch, Jacqueline (Robert) Kendall, Diane Davidson, Sharon (Alan) Sipos, Gregory (Connie) Bair, Christopher Bair, Brian (Helen) Bair, Peggy (Jamie) Townsend, Mary Orr, Regina (Chris) Donohoe, Robert (Stacey) Rudnicki, Ronald (Michelle) Rudnicki, and many great-nieces and great-nephews, as well as great, great-nieces and nephews, and a sister-in-law, Carrie Rudnicki.
Uncle Ed was a very generous and giving person, not only to his family, but to many others as well. He was a very talented carpenter and "fixer upper." He was always the "go-to" person in the family when anything needed to be repaired or built.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings Thomas, Hank, Genevieve Bair, Stanley, and John.
A special thanks to Brookdale Austintown for their care of Ed for the past three months.
The Rudnicki family has entrusted the care of Edmund to the Kubina-Yuhasz-Wasko Funeral Home. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery.
