Filomena Rose West, 81
Campbell…Funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 4, 2019, at 9:30 a.m. at the Wasko Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Christ the Good Shepherd Parish at St. Lucy Catholic Church, with the Very Rev. Monsignor Peter Polando officiating, for Filomena Rose West, 81, who passed away Sunday, January 27, 2019, with her family by her side.
Filomena was born June 26, 1937, in Vandergrift, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Domenic and Mary (Mediate) Caruso. She was a 1955 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School and later attended cosmetology school.
She was a homemaker and also worked as a beautician and part-time receptionist for West Products.
Filomena was a very active parishioner of St. Lucy’s Church and a member of the Infant Guild. She was a member of the Clickers Crochet Club of Campbell and the local chapter of the Society of the Blind.
Filomena, despite her life-long visual impairment and eventual blindness, published a children’s inspirational book called, Aimee Angel and Chucky Churchmouse. She also crocheted and donated lap blankets for the sick and was also known for being an excellent cook.
Filomena will be deeply missed and forever remembered by her husband, William H. West of Campbell; whom she married October 25, 1958, in St. Lucy’s Catholic Church, her daughters, Joyce (Steve) Zitkovich of Boardman and Mary (Tim) Gut of North Olmsted; her son, Bill West, Jr. (Yukari Inoue) of Poland; sister, Rosalie (Ronald) Straka of North Ridgeville; her brother, Joseph (Diane Zupo) Caruso of Campbell; seven grandchildren, Aimee (Derek Moore); Chuck (Helene Wolf) Stephanie, Kara, Vanessa, Mai, and Rocco; and seven great-grandchildren, Mikayla, Leah, Trinnity, Marcos, Adriana, Lennox, and Malaina.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
The West family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home and will receive family and friends Sunday, Feb. 3, 2019, from 2-5:00 p.m. at the funeral home, where the Infant Guild will offer prayers at 1:30 p.m.
Donations may be made in Filomena’s name to St. Lucy Catholic Church.
