Irene M. Lefoer, 91
POLAND…Irene M. Lefoer, 91 passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 14, 2026 at The Inn at Poland Way.
Irene was born July 27,1934 in Youngstown, Ohio, a daughter of Michael and Margaret (Kollar) Svagerko.
Irene was a lifelong resident of the Youngstown area. She grew up in Campbell, Ohio and was a 1952 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School. She began her career at Household Finance Corporation and later attended Choffin School of Practical Nursing for her L.P.N. She went on to work at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, followed by caring for disabled children at Leonard Kirtz School until she retired.
Irene married the love of her life, Attorney Dominic S. Lefoer on November 27,
1965 and they shared almost 53 years of marriage until his passing on September 1, 2018.
Irene was of the Catholic faith and was a parishioner of St. Catherine of Siena at St. Charles Catholic Church in Boardman. She was a member of the Jednota and was very active in her faith, attending daily Mass, St. Anthony Novena, and praying the rosary daily particularly with the ladies of the parish.
Irene enjoyed shopping, baking kiffles and kolachi, playing cards, and she especially loved spending time with her family.
Irene will be deeply missed and always remembered by her children, Dr. Dominic S. (Holly) Lefoer of Poland and Philip (Michele) Lefoer of Canfield; her grandchildren, Anthony, Matteo, Carmen, Alexis and Michael Lefoer;her sister, Margaret Bajnok; her brother, Cy (Sara) Svagerko and sister-in-law, Maria Svagerko.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her siblings, Carl Svagerko,Anne Polkabla, and Richard Svagerko; in-laws, Michael Polkabla, Jean Svagerko, and Michael Bajnok.
The Lefoer family has entrusted Irene’s care to the Wasko Funeral Home in Campbell, Ohio where calling hours will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2026
from 5-7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2026 at 11am at St. Catherine of Siena Parish at St. Charles Catholic Church in
Boardman, Ohio. Everyone is asked to meet directly at the church on Thursday at 10:45am for Mass.
Irene will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband in St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Cemetery in Lowellville, Ohio.
