Irene R. Nicola, 90

Boardman…Irene R. Nicola, 90 passed away peacefully at The Inn at Old Saybrook in Columbiana on Sunday, August 10, 2025.

Irene was born April 17, 1935 in Youngstown, Ohio, a daughter of Michael and Rose (Seveyka) Devine.

She was a 1953 graduate of East High School.

Irene married the love of her life, Nicholas Nicola on December 28, 1958 and they shared almost 50 years of marriage until his passing on October 13, 2008.

Irene worked as an Executive Administrative Secretary at YSU until retiring with 30 years of service.

She was a passionate member of her church participating in multiple ministries including choir, musical theatre and spiritual counseling. Her faith was hard to miss and was the guiding force in her life. Irene was a wonderful loving mother and grandmother and a dear friend to many. She cared deeply for others, often extending that kindness and help to those in need.

Irene will be greatly missed and always remembered by her children, Eleni (Richard) Gage, George (Patricia) Nicola, and Maria (John) Halowell; her brother, Michael Devine; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, and her sister Jean.

The Nicola family has entrusted Irene’s care to the Wasko Funeral Home in Campbell, Ohio. Per Irene’s wishes there will be no services.
