John Theo Cherol

August 16, 1987 ~ January 6, 2018 (age 30) 30 Years Old

PITTSBURGH- John Theo Cherol, passed away of complications from a two year courageous battle with Stage IV Lung Cancer on January 6, 2018 with his loving wife Kristine, and his parents, John and Maria by his side.

John was born on August 16, 1987 in Youngstown, a son of John and Maria (Kelades) Cherol. He was a graduate of Boardman High School (2006), and a graduate of Youngstown State University (2011) with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Forensics. He took his love for computers into a successful career and worked throughout his diagnosis until November 2017.

John was very active during his high school years at Boardman, playing on the soccer team (#20), and his passion for soccer lead to him become an OHSAA soccer referee. He also was involved in crew and sound for the performing arts center, and was always known for his sense of humor. He was very proud of reaching the highest honor of Eagle Scout within Boy Scouts Troop 46, where he continued to mentor and participate in various troop activities. His time with the Boy Scouts fueled his love of the outdoors, especially kayaking on the Allegheny River and in Mill Creek Park. He also had a passion for photography and would often be found wandering with his camera in the park.

John was most proud in his short life of his work with the LUNGevity Foundation after his cancer diagnosis. It was there that he found his voice and used that voice to share his story. He let others know they were not alone in their fight.

John was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Theo Kelades, and his paternal grandparents, Rose Fair and Frank Cherol.

He is survived by his wife Kristine (Scoon) Cherol; his parents John and Maria Cherol; his brother Michael; his maternal grandmother, Julia Kelades; uncles and aunts, Charles (Alice) Kelades, Frank (Laurie) Cherol, and Rich (Dana) Faire and his many loving cousins. He will be deeply missed by his whole family on both sides, including Kristine’s parents Karen and Rob, along with his furbaby Liam.

A memorial celebration of life will be held at Noon on February 3, 2018 at the Boardman Performing Arts Center; 7777 Glenwood Ave, Boardman, Ohio 44512. The family will receive friends at the Performing Arts Center from 11am until the time of the service.
