John J. Leskovyansky Jr., 75 CANFIELD
John J. Leskovyansky Jr., age 75 passed away peacefully in his home on the evening of Tuesday December 17, 2024. John was born April 21, 1949 in Youngstown, Ohio and was the eldest child of Judge John J. Leskovyansky Sr. and Ethel V. Drew
He graduated from Cardinal Mooney High School in 1967 and went on to graduate with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting in 1973 and 1978 from Youngstown State University. After working his way through college at the steel mills, John worked as an accountant with the state auditor’s office, served as Finance Director for the City of Campbell, and assistant auditor for the City of Alliance throughout his life before retiring. He was also a member of the U.S. Army Reserves, formally retiring in 2009 at the rank of Sergeant 1st class.
He was a lifelong resident of the Mahoning Valley and parishioner of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, St. Matthias Church and a member of held office at the JEDNOTA, First Catholic Slovak Association, and SOKOL, as well as member of the Youngstown State University Penguin Club.
He was an avid Cleveland Browns and Ohio State Football fan, but was especially passionate about tailgating before and attending YSU football games dating back to the 1980’s, having attended a few of their National Championship game appearances. Most of all, John loved the time he spent with family, particularly his grandchildren, camping and riding ATV’s.
John is survived by his children, Nikole Lynsky of Michigan, Richard (Tabitha) Hoffman of Boardman, Mark ( Robyn Bird) Hoffman of New Castle, and Lauri Johnson of Aurora. Also left with his beloved memory are his grandchildren; Skyler Pinkerton, Samantha Hoffman, Hayden Hoffman, Clayton Hoffman, Adam Lipply, Jordan Johnson, and Grace Johnson as well as great grandchildren Talulah Lipply, Silas Lipply, Izaiah Lamp and Alana Lamp. He also leaves behind his younger siblings Paul (Collette) Leskovyansky, Susan (Donald) Freeman, and Mark Leskovyansky, as well as his former spouse Karen Schwarz and niece Victoria.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ethel, and Granddaughter Abigail Lipply.
His family has entrusted John’s care to Kubina-Yuhasz-Wasko Funeral home in Boardman. Calling hours will be on Saturday, January 4, 2024 from 9:30-10:50am at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, St Matthias Church in Youngstown. A Mass of Christian Burial in the Church will immediately follow at 11am with the Rev. John Jarek officiating.
John will be laid to rest next to his parents at Lake Park Cemetery.
