John Russo Obituary

JOHN G. RUSSO, 67

AUSTINTOWN… John Russo, an Austintown native, passed away on March 9, 2025, leaving behind a life full of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories. He leaves his wife, Gina, who he met in 1978 and their bond quickly grew into a love that would last a lifetime. They married in 1983, embarking on a journey together that was filled with unwavering support, adventure, laughter, and cherished moments. Gina was not only John’s wife but also his confidante, his greatest cheerleader, and his rock through all of life’s ups and downs.

Together, they created a warm and welcoming home, where family and friends always felt embraced. Whether they were traveling to new places, enjoying quiet evenings on the deck, working puzzles, or simply sharing stories, their love was evident in every moment they spent together. Gina’s kindness and strength complemented John’s generous spirit, making them a true team in every sense. She now carries his memory in her heart, along with the countless beautiful moments they shared.

A loving father to Miranda (Phil) and Stephanie (Danny), John was the kind of dad who never said no—whether it was a favor, an adventure, or just one more renovation request from his daughters. His greatest joy, though, was being a grandfather to five grandkids, Aubreanna, Everlee, Emarsyn, Hendrix, and Grady, always ready to play, joke, and make every moment special for them. He never missed a grandkids’ game, cheering them on with the same passion he had for life. He also leaves his brother Larry (Chris) Russo; two sisters Sue Burnside and Laura (Butch) Hileman; as well as many nieces and nephews whom he loved.

He was preceded in death by his parents Dominic and Mildred (Fitch) Russo, a brother James and his wife Bonnie Russo and a brother-in-law Earl Burnside.

John retired from United Rolls, Inc., where he also served as the president of the United Steel Workers 3610, always advocating for those around him.

John had a heart for helping others and a knack for bringing people together. If you needed a hand, he was there and could do anything. His weekends were often spent at the lake or with his brother, Larry—always doing something, always in motion. He loved fishing and boating, making countless memories out on the water.

He loved vacations, the horse races, and any sport, especially the Cleveland Browns. He was also a big fan of the NHRA Drag Races, and nothing thrilled him more than the roar of Nitro cars flying down the track. Mornings found him at Planet Fitness, where he started his day with energy and determination.

John was a lot of things to a lot of people: a husband, a dad, a grandpa, a brother, a friend. John would drop everything to help someone that asked. He lived life with energy, generosity, and a spirit that will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
