Mary Jane Maro Obituary

Mary Jane (Paulsey) Maro, 97

CAMPBELL...Mary Jane (Paulsey) Maro, 97, lived a very full, active life of service to family, community and church from March 17, 1929, until her passing on May 28, 2026.

A daughter of Benjamin and Agnes (Shipsky) Paulsey, she was born in Campbell, Ohio, and attended Campbell schools, graduating from Campbell Memorial in 1947. Mary Jane also attended business school and took classes at YSU. She resided in the Mahoning Valley her entire life.

On October 25, 1950, she married Stephen Maro, and together they built a beautiful family-life centered around faith, hard work, and responsibility.

Mary Jane was a homemaker and worked and volunteered outside the home in many capacities as a nanny, serving at Isaly’s when ice cream was 10 cents a scoop, candling eggs at the A&P, a secretary, in sales demonstrating products in area grocery stores, serving as an Avon Representative, teacher’s aide, and a Cancer Society and Heart Association volunteer. In her later years, she worked alongside her husband at Maro Brothers Service Stations (assuring customers received the cleanest change possible).

She is survived by her seven children: Stephen Maro of Lowellville, Dr. Robert Maro of Lowellville, Jeanne (Ken) Zuzik of Canfield, Dr. Anne (Dr. David Doverspike) Slanina of Greenville, Dr. Cindy Maro of Cranberry Township, Patty (Jeff) Moliterno of Canfield, and Attorney Lynn Maro (Attorney Jonathan Schoenike) of Springfield Township. She was a proud grandmother to 19 grandchildren and a great-grandmother to 20 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen, and her siblings, Benjamin Paulsey, Esther Clement, and Agnes DiCicco.

Mary Jane was a lifelong member of Christ the Good Shepherd Church (St. John the Baptist Church), Campbell, Ohio. She served as a Vice President of the Infant Jesus of Prague Guild and was also a member of The Ohio State University Mothers’ Club. She loved traveling, music, story-telling, dancing, playing cards, and reading.

Additionally, her strong faith, love of family, patriotism, and commitment to supporting charitable causes were values she carried throughout her life.

Above all else, Mary Jane will be remembered for her impeccable style, her love of shopping and finding a great bargain, and her famous kolachi that became a treasured family tradition. She was proud of her large family and spoke highly of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to friends and strangers, yet, truly no one was a stranger to Mary Jane.

The Maro family has entrusted Mary Jane’s care to the Wasko Funeral Home in Campbell, Ohio. Friends and family may call at Wasko Funeral Home, Campbell, OH, on Friday, June 5, 2026, from 4-7 PM. A Prayer service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 9:30 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Christ the Good Shepherd Church (St. John the Baptist, Reed Ave.), at 10 AM.

Lynn’s siblings would like to extend their deepest gratitude to her and son-in-law, Jon Schoenike, who lovingly cared for her for the past ten years. Through countless acts of daily care, patience, and devotion, they provided comfort and companionship that allowed Mary Jane to remain surrounded by family. Their selfless dedication was a true gift to both Mary Jane and the entire family.

Additionally, the family would like to extend a special thank you to her friend, Linda, who treated Jane like her own mother, and to the caregivers who lovingly cared for Jane during her final year, Tammy, Cara, Elisha, Dawn, and Kim, and the staff of Akeso.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Christ the Good Shepherd Church.
