Panagiotis G. “Pete” Stamos
CAMPBELL… Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday June 28, 2025 at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, Youngstown, with Fr. Joseph DiStefano officiating, for Panagiotis G. “Pete” Stamos; age 67, who passed away peacefully on Friday June 20, 2025 surrounded by his family at Hospice House in Poland.
Pete was born July 11, 1957 in Xirocampos, Leros, Greece. He was a son of George S. and Irene (Moungros) Stamos.
He immigrated to Campbell, Ohio at the age of 13 in 1970 and was a 1977 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School. He furthered his education at the Mahoning County Vocation School and learned the skills of Diesel Mechanics.
In 1982 he and his family moved and lived in Leros Greece, in 1985 they returned to Campbell and then in 1989 moved to Boston, Massachusetts and finally returned to Campbell, Ohio for good in mid-1990.
Pete began his career as a laborer at Youngstown Sheet and Tube until 1982. He then embarked on owning his own business which he established on the corner of McCartney Road and Coitsville Road Stamos Quick Lube and Auto Repair; he even for a time had a second location in Warren, Ohio.
Pete’s passions were fixing cars and helping others in any way that he could. He knew the value of hard, honest work and instilled those values into his children. He will be known for being a truly selfless person and for always putting others first. He was proud of his Greek heritage and enjoyed visiting the island of Leros with his family.
He was an active parishioner of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, where he served on the Parish Council and volunteered his time fixing anything that needed to be fixed.
Pete is survived by his wife the former Darlene Jones, whom he married March 25, 1978. His daughter Irene Stamos of Youngstown, his son George Stamos of Hubbard and his daughter Marina Stamos of Campbell. He also leaves his grandchildren Julia, Marcello and Mariana ; his brother Stamati (Eftimiah) Stamos of, Greece; his sisters Kiki (Costa) Kontogiorgakis of Greece; Maria (Dimitri “Mimi”) Amorginos of Florida; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins whom he deeply loved.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents.
The family has entrusted Pete’s care to the Wasko Funeral Home in Campbell.
Calling hours will be held from 10-11:45am on Saturday June 28, 2025 at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Youngstown. Funeral services will follow in the church at 12 Noon.
Burial will follow at Archangel Michael Greek Orthodox Cemetery.
