Rosemary Glod Obituary

GIRARD – Rosemary Glod, 73, crossed the veil to the Otherworld on July 20, 2024, at 7:25am surrounded by her family.

Rosemary was born on April 26, 1951, the daughter of Joseph and Mary Louise Reilly Hornyak in Youngstown, and was a lifelong area resident.  She was a graduate of The Rayen School.  She received her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Education from Youngstown State University and was a Special Education Teacher in the Youngstown City Schools, retiring after 35 years of service.

Rosemary was married to Charles Glod.  They shared a home in Hubbard for many years until his untimely passing in 2007.  Rosemary enjoyed the simple pleasures in life.  She and her family enjoyed the company of many cats and dogs over the years, all of whom were from rescue shelters or strays that found a forever home.  She loved to feed and watch the birds and she enjoyed observing wildlife and nature during walks in parks and woodlands both near and far.  She was an Ohio Certified Volunteer Naturalist, volunteering time and support to nature related activities.

“Happiness is a cup of coffee and a good book.”  She had an extensive collection of books relating to Celtic mythology, folklore and spirituality and other esoteric subjects.  She also enjoyed reading fiction.  Rosemary’s deep exploration of Celtic traditions and her connection to the natural world led her to have a love and respect for nature and led her to follow the Druid Path.  She was a member of the Order of Bards, Ovatest and Druids, a Druid order based in Britain, having achieved the Ovate grade.  Her spiritual path became a way of life, and she enjoyed attending Druid gatherings on the East Coast and travelling to places of spiritual significance.

Rosemary will be sadly missed by her son Michael Hornyak, her sisters Kathy (Rich) Bindas and Mary Ann (John) Opincarne, and her nieces Holly Lehman, Elizabeth Opincarne and nephews Chuck Merkich, Rob White and John Opincarne.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister Ellen Ross and her brother Joseph Hornyak.

Throughout her life Rosemary contributed to organizations that promoted social justice, environmental protection, and animal welfare.  If you would like to make a memorial to her, please consider contributing to one of these types of organizations or you may simply choose to go outside and revel in the beauty and wonder that is our natural world.  What is remembered, lives.

There will be no services at this time.
