Stephen H. O’Dea, 96
CAMPBELL – Stephen H. O’Dea, 96, passed away peacefully on December 10th
surrounded by his loved ones.
Stephen was born March 22, 1929, in Campbell, Ohio, a son of Stephen H. Sr. and Aurelia
(Stanfar) O’Dea.
He was a 1945 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School, where he excelled academically and in athletics, lettering in basketball, football, and baseball. His talent earned him recruitment by The Ohio State University, where he became the youngest player ever to letter in football at the age of 16. He continued his education and athletic career at Xavier University, graduating in 1951. He later attended Youngstown State University where he earned a degree in Accounting.
Stephen joined the U.S. Army on March 14, 1951, serving honorably until March 5, 1953.
He married Louise Neverosky in 1951, and after her passing, he later married the former Margaret Mraz on July 16, 1959. Stephen and Margaret shared 43 wonderful years of marriage until her passing on March 18, 2002.
Professionally, Stephen worked as an accountant for Youngstown Sheet and Tube Co., then at Republic Steel. He later served the City of Campbell as Finance Director and retired from the Mahoning County Auditor’s Office in 1999.
Stephen was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He took great joy in watching his children and grandchildren play sports, always the loudest and most enthusiastic supporter in the stands. A devout Ohio State fan, he carried his Buckeye pride throughout his life. He also loved a good book or television show about espionage, never missed his daily crossword puzzle, and was full of wisdom, knowledge, and life lessons that will be cherished forever.
Stephen will be deeply missed and always remembered by his children, Pamela (Raymond) Burgess of Poland, Michael (Kelly Raybuck) O’Dea of Campbell, and Kelly (Gary) Jackson of Campbell; his daughter-in-law, Terri O’Dea of Campbell; three grandchildren, Samantha Jackson of Lake Milton, Sara (John Dean) Jackson of Struthers, and Stephen (Marissa) O’Dea of Youngstown; and four great-grandchildren, Jackson, Marleigh, Charlotte, and Liam.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Louise; his wife, Margaret; and his son, Stephen.
The O’Dea family has entrusted Stephen’s care to the Wasko Funeral Home in Campbell, Ohio. A private party in lieu of services was held per his request.
