William Newton Obituary

William James (Bill) Newton, 78

Youngstown……..William James (Bill) Newton, 78, passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, at home, surrounded by his loving family after a short battle with brain cancer.

Bill was born February 4, 1941, in Youngstown and was a life-long resident.  He worked at Sheet & Tube as a Foreman; Crucible Steel and Schwebel’s as a route driver until his retirement.   He was a member of Heritage Presbyterian (formally John-Calvin St Paul).

Bill married the love of his life Barbara Jean (Komorosky) in 1960 and enjoyed almost 58 years together.  He leaves two daughters, Debbie (Bill) Jupp of Youngstown; Jean (Bill) Shannon of Campbell. Bill now lives eternally with his beloved son, Bill Jr, who proceeded him in death. He also leaves seven grandchildren, Bill (Melissa) Jupp, Vicki (Mike) Glenn, Ashley and Michael Jupp; Brittany, Brianna, Bill Shannon and four great-grandchildren; Elizabeth, Alexis, Addison and Connor; a brother Eric Newton and a sister Rose (Bill) Newton-Clay.  Along with his immediate family, Bill’s love also continued to shine bright through his extended family across the country.

Bill enjoyed the Church and served as a Deacon. He spent much of his time there as “go-to” chili maker, helping with rummage sales and acting as custodian for the as long as he was able.  Along with serving his church, he served his community by coordinating food drives for the less fortunate.

Bill loved his family and was affectionately known by many nick-names; such as “Butch”, “The Chief”, “Godfather”, “One-Step” and “Papa”.  Although he was a man of many titles, he was known most importantly as “The Rock” of our family.  Bill was the king of the one-liners. Every time someone called, he would say “This is the Main man, not the bread man or the cake man”, and if you asked him how he was, he would say “About 6’2” – 185 lbs.).

Bill enjoyed the simple things in life like rocking on his porch, feeling the cool breeze across his face and hearing the sound of the rain.  Some of his fondness memories were spending summers with his family at Wildwood Lake, going on bus trips with the church and traveling with his wife.  Anyone who knew Bill also knew he was an avid sports fan who faithfully followed his Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns and Ohio State sports through all of their ups and downs.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents (Sam and Ella May), beloved son (Bill), brothers (Sam, Richard and Bobby), sister (Sandy) and sister-in-law (Nancy).

The family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. J. Gallo and his office staff for their devotion to his care throughout the years.  We would also like to thank the entire care team at Mercy Health Youngstown for their compassionate care.  Ultimately, the family would like to thank Hospice of the Valley for making Bill’s transition into the next life as dignified and peaceful as possible for him and his family. Their undivided devotion to Bill humbled us.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Hospice of the Valley so they may help another family as much as they helped us.
